Tomorrow

They tell us that tomorrow morning, the sky will turn white, that we'll hear the flutter of a million snowflakes descending on Northern Virginia like sleep upon an infant. From underneath my bed's layer of goose down, I'll dash out to draw the curtains. I'll see the monochromatic ground and sky, the resplendent cover on our houses, roads, cars.

It'll amaze me, like it always has, that those feathery bits of ice could stop time and silence an entire city, that as humans, we cannot tell the sky to stop; that we can only sit with our nose against the cool windowpane and contemplate the gentle falling of snow.

Imagine if snowflakes emitted a sound whose pitch/frequency was based on the structure of the snowflake when they hit the ground. THAT would make for some fun blizzards.

This is beautiful.

You know what's weird? You guys have gotten more snow than us. Not saying it's not cold enough -- we've barely gotten above 28 all week. But just no snow.
